“The power of Culture”
A Traditional organization structure has too many layers that delay decision making and stifle innovation. Employees in such work environments feel disconnected and monotony creeps in due to the way their work is designed. In such a situation, organizations struggle with issues such as:
- Lack of flexibility and low responsiveness
- High operating cost and comparatively low efficiencies
- Disengaged work force
An organization should endeavor to build flexibility and design systems that enable agility. One way to do this is by enabling small, autonomous groups that can act quickly and easily, without any hierarchical constraints.
Thus, the organization of work and decision making authority should be process driven rather than individuals or positions based. Self-Managed Lean Teams are designed to address the problems of conventional organizations and to tap and unleash the power of Team Work.
A Self-Managed Work-team (SMWT) is an empowered, small and cohesive group of people with operational decision-making authority. The team largely handles plant operations on its own, with minimal supervision. The objective of SMLT process, thus, is to create a knowledgeable workforce which is empowered to carry out the end to end job.
